Redding School Board Turns Down Superintendent's Budget Increase Request

REDDING, Conn. -- The Board of Education voted for a zero percent budget increase for the 2016-17 school year, rejecting Schools Superintendent Tom McMorran’s request for a 1.24 percent increase, according to the Redding Pilot.

The total budget of $21.3 million will remove a request for a full-time writing specialist, end the Tuesday Zone Club, and cut a full-time teacher in the Spanish Department, among other losses, said the Redding Pilot.

McMorran said the change, which affects Redding Elementary School and John Reed Middle School, can be done, but the trade-offs will be hard, added the Redding Pilot.
