The total requested budget of $15.9 million budget covers Samuel Staples Elementary School and Helen Keller Middle School. The superintendent requested a $338,304 increase over this year to balance student enrollment decline while still maintaining educational quality, said the Easton Courier.
The increase will help cover the cost of upgrading the septic system at Samuel Staples Elementary School, after receiving estimates of $16,000, $22,000 and $26,000 to bring the system up to code, and to hire a new teacher at Keller, among other smaller items. Residents will vote on the 2016-17 town and school budgets at the Tuesday, May 3, referendum, added the Easton Courier.
