REDDING, Conn. -- Redding's Democratic Town Committee meets Thursday to nominate a replacement for Selectman Leon Karvelis, who is stepping down from the board Nov. 31 in anticipation of his move to Bethel, according to the the Redding Pilot.
Town board members Julia Pemberton, a Democrat, and Michael Thompson, a Republican, will then vote on the nomination. The individual who takes over for Karvelis will serve the remainder of his term, which goes through January 2018, the Redding Pilot reported.
Karvelis, a Democrat who made an unsuccessful bid for state representative in 2012, told the Redding Pilot that he'll miss Redding, particularly because it is where he got his start in public service. A challenge to the replacement process could lead to a special election but town leaders don't think that's likely, the Redding Pilot said.
