Monroe Budget Heads To Finance Board A Little Lighter

MONROE, Conn. -- The Monroe Town Council trimmed next year's initial spending plan from $85.47 million to $85.38 million, a 1.58 percent increase over this year's budget, that also includes a 3.46 percent increase in real estate taxes, said the Monroe Courier.

The increase in the real estate tax was due to the state capping vehicle tax collections at 32 mills, which saves residents about 6.8 percent, added the Monroe Courier.

The budget savings were made by eliminating pay increases for part-time employees and other minor cuts. The budget now heads to the Finance Board, which will hold a public meeting on Monday, March 7. Following the meeting, the Finance Board will make their revisions and return it to the Council. The budget referendum is April 5, said the Monroe Courier.
