Trumbull Police said they received a frantic 911 call at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday from a Stonehouse Road home. The woman who called said she and her children had been startled from their sleep by a noise, and found her estranged husband in the kitchen, according to police.
The husband, 35-year-old Jamell Nelson of Waterbury, had climbed onto the roof and broke into the home through a window, police said. He left the home when he heard his wife calling the police and the children crying, police said. An officer found Nelson on the front porch and took him into custody.
Police learned that the woman had been separated from Nelson for over a year, which prompted her to move to Trumbull, police said. Nelson was charged with first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, interfering with police and refusal to be fingerprinted after he was uncooperative during booking, police said. He was held on a $100,000 bond and went to court on Monday.
