All seven calls came in over a period eight hours, according to fire officials. The basement fire was reported at around 8:30 p.m., and units arriving found a large basement filled with smoke.
The Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company and the Stepney Fire Department assisted the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department with the basement fire, streching a line and making an agressive push to find the seat of the fire, according to fire officials.
Because of the size of the home, and because there were no hydrants, tanker trucks were brought in from the Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Company, the Quaker Farms Fire Company, Botsford Fire Rescue, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and the White Hills Fire Company. Botsford Fire Rescue also provided a rapid intervention team.
During the fire, the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company covered one of the lightning strikes, and also provided station coverage with the White Hills Fire Company and the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company.
