Police received a report of an intoxicated man with a gun at the Stop & Shop on Quality Street on Monday, but when officers arrived the man had left, the Connecticut Post reported. Employees told police that the man had a gun on his hip and had smelled of alcohol, and that he had been argumentative before leaving the store, according to the Connecticut Post.
Officers were able to locate the man in his car nearby and pulled it over, according to the Connecticut Post. The man, identified as 50-year-old Gregg Spychalla of Trumbull, had a loaded 9mm handgun and some empty beer cars in his car, and he failed a field sobriety test, the Connecticut Post reported.
Spychalla was charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated and driving under the influence, and released on a $250 bond, according to the Connecticut Post.
