Stephen Wright, 62, was appointed to the state Board of Education by Gov. Dannel Malloy in 2011 and reappointed in 2015, and previously served as chair of the Trumbull Board of Education, according to the Connecticut Post.
Wright has been arrested four times this year on drunken driving charges, the Connecticut Post reported. The first was in Norwalk on Feb. 22, followed by a second on Feb. 27 in Shelton, then a third on March 17 when he was arrested by state police, and finally a fourth in Stratford on April 10, according to the Connecticut Post. In the Norwalk and Stratford arrests, he was released on a promise to appear in court, while in the Shelton and state arrests he posted $1,000 and $500 bonds, respectively, according to the Connecticut Post.
When Wright didn't show up for court on April 20 for the Norwalk arrest, a warrant for failure to appear was issued, the Connecticut Post reported. Police tried to arrest him at the Trumbull Ethics Commission meeting on Wednesday, but he didn't appear, the Connecticut Post said.
The Connecticut Post reported that the phone at Wright's home has been disconnected, and that his wife had recently divorced him in late March. Trumbull First Selectman Timothy Herbst told the Connecticut Post that he is concerned about Wright's safety and well-being, but that Wright's recent actions are troubling and he should turn himself in.
