The incident took place at around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Penney Avenue and Intervale Road, near the Bridgeport and Stratford town borders. The 59-year-old salesman from New York reported that he had just finished a business visit at a local jewelry store in Bridgeport and was driving alone to another nearby location.
As he entered Trumbull on Penney Avenue, he was "pulled over" by two men in a dark-colored sedan with flash grill lights, police said. One of the men displayed a handgun and put it against the salesman's head while threatening him not to move, police said.
The two men stole a case containing a large quantity of assorted jewelry and watches, valued at several thousand dollars, before fleeing the area in the same car, according to police. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Trumbull officers searched the surrounding area, with the assistance of Bridgeport and Stratford police, but were unable to locate the suspects. Police said investigators were working to identify those responsible, as well as to determine the exact contents and value of the merchandise that was stolen.
