According to Redding police, the teen, who appeared to not be wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the car when the driver, a 17-year-old Easton resident, lost control of the vehicle around 10:30 p.m.
The car traveled into the woods and down an embankment, a police press release said.
Another passenger, a 16-year-old Fairfield teen, and the driver, received minor injuries.
Officers are investigating the crash, and Cross Highway will be closed through at least noon today, police said.
