The callers are claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service and their goal is to try and get money from the person they are calling, police said.
The scammers also make threats of arrest by local authorities if the victim doesn't agree to make a payment, and they demand a call back and use a valid phone number. If the victim of the scam returns the call, the scammers make further threats, police said.
Easton police said residents should remember that these calls are scams and to never provide personal information or make any kind of payment. The Internal Revenue Service will never call and request any information over the phone. Anyone receiving a call can contact the Federal Trade Commission and file a complaint through their website.
Residents may also report the crime to the Easton Dispatch Center at (203) 268-4111.
