EASTON, Conn. -- Prosecutors want a former Westport woman accused of helping her boyfriend plan and cover up his parents’ slaying to relinquish samples of her hair and bodily fluids for DNA testing, according to a report by the Connecticut Post.
Jennifer Valiante, 31, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution in connection with the deaths of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, 56 and 55 respectively.
The Easton couple's sudden disappearance in early August, 2015, last years set off a massive search. Their bodies were discovered hidden under a pile of debris about two months later, according to multiple media reports.
The Navins' 28-year-old son, Kyle, a Bridgeport resident, has been charged with shooting them and burying their bodies in Weston.
Jeffery Navin was president of a refuse company in Easton; Jeanette Navin worked in the library of the Weston Intermediate School. The suspect was employed by his father’s company as an operations manager.
Kyle and Jennifer met while students at Staples High School in Westport, the Connecticut Post said.
According to the Connecticut Post, Valiante’s lawyer is fighting the state’s attempt to obtain hair, saliva and blood from his client so her DNA can be checked against that on a ledger taken from the Navins’ home and on tape found where they were buried.
Prosecutors said Kyle Navin was a heroin addict who was deeply in debt to his parents and about to be cut out of their will.
Arguments on the motion seeking Valiante’s DNA samples were continued until Wednesday, Oct. 12, The Connecticut Post story said.
Both Valiante and Navin are behind bars on $2 million and $2.5 million bonds.
