William J. Markut, 69, Monroe Resident

MONROE, Conn. – William J. Markut, who was a Monroe resident for most of his life, died Tuesday, May 24. He was 69.

He was the husband of 48 years to Corrine (Anderson) Markut. He was born in Derby on Oct. 15, 1946, the son of Frank and Mary (Beres) Markut. 

He was a union carpenter for P. Francini and Co. until retiring. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and received two Purple Heart Medals. After being discharged, he became a drill instructor for two years at Parris Island, S.C. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp.

He is survived by his children, William James Markut and Dawn Marie Redman; grandchildren Anthony, Amanda, Taylor and Justin; siblings Blanche Grosser and her husband, Frank, and Francis Markut and his wife, Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Markut.

Friends may call on Friday May 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Shelton.
