Members of the Senior/Community Center and Library Study Building Committee will be at the current senior center at 23 Priscilla Place at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to hear whether senior citizens would prefer to keep or upgrade the current center, move to a new location or combine the senior center with a community center for people of all ages.
A second meeting, open to all of the public ,will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Trumbull Library common room, said Joe Pifko, who co-chairs the committee with Dan Marconi.
The current senior center is housed in a former school built around the turn of the 20th century, Pifko said.
The committee has held two forums to gauge public opinion and they solicited responses to two online surveys on the subject, but Pifko said there is no clear majority opinion yet.
“It’s all up in the air,” he said.
The committee has looked at a lot of senior centers in Connecticut and a few outside the state. Members will eventually make their recommendations to the Town Council, which will put a building committee in place, if needed.
“This is a big endeavor,” Pifko said. “It’s an apolitical group. It’s what’s good for the town, what's good for the seniors. They deserve it.”
