The case against Robert McGowan came to light last month after he was elected to the Trumbull Town Council. A Republican, McGowan was forced to resign from his newly elected District 2 seat just a few weeks after the election. McGowan is a real estate agent with William Pitt Sotheby’s in Stratford.
McGowan was charged with vehicular homicide in October, four years after the fatal crash. Peter Tyliczka, of Old Bridge, N.J., the driver of the other car involved in the crash Oct. 1, 2011, in Westfield, N.J., was killed.
McGowan appeared Monday before Superior Court Judge Scott J. Moynihan for arraignment the vehicular homicide charge and pleaded not guilty, NJ.com said.
Just after the crash, McGowan was charged with speeding, reckless driving, failing to heed a stop and drunken driving as well as two counts of assault by auto for injuries suffered by a passenger in his car and a passenger in the other car, NJ.com said. It is not clear why the vehicular homicide charge was added this fall.
