The road will be partially closed in April with an alternating one-lane road at the intersection of Route 53 and Umpawaug Road to repair a bridge, the Redding Pilot reported. The project consists of the replacement of the abutments, deck and parapets along with minor safety improvements, said the Redding Pilot.

The Department of Transportation said Route 53 would be closed completely just south of the intersection with Umpawaug Road beginning the first week of July. To help reduce any clogs and increased traffic due to the one-lane roadway, the Redding Police Department said it may use temporary speed humps and signs, added the Redding Pilot.
