The school hosted students from Sandy Hook since the 2012 tragedy. Monroe First selectman Steve Vavrek said the town has discussed potential options for the newly unoccupied building which had been out of use from 2011 as a result of lowering enrollment and funding issues until Sandy Hook needed a place to go, the Connecticut Post said.
Superintendent James Agostine is confident that the Monroe-owned facility can find a function. Previously there had been a discussion of repurposing it into a community center following a 2014 study plan, an idea has still has some support, the Connecticut Post reported.
