Update: repairs were continuing early Tuesday morning.

Eversource has begun an unscheduled repair of the natural gas line as of about 9 p.m. Monday night, Monroe police said.

Many residents have reported their gas is not working, and Eversource is trying to resolve the issue, police said.

"We've been told that Eversource will be working throughout the night and going door to door checking gas service once they find the underlying issue," police said. "If you have service issues contact Eversource. If you have an emergency, call 911."

If your service is involved, you may receive the following message directly from Eversource:

"Hello, this is an important message from Eversource Energy. A natural gas main is being repaired in your area. In order to perform the work, your natural gas service has been temporarily interrupted," the message says.

"Please be assured that the area is safe and Eversource crews are on site. You will see our technicians going door to door to visit homes in your neighborhood to shut off meters. All Eversource employees have company-issued identification.

"To ensure your safety, please turn off all natural gas appliances. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation."
