Jack Young and Arthur Ludlejian, both of Monroe, and Shelton residents, Franklin “Bud” Beattie, John Barbuscak and Leroy Glover were honored according to the Monroe Courier.
They were given citations from the U.S. Senate and Connecticut General Assembly, along with gifts from the foundation, the Monroe Courier reported.
The veterans shared stories. Young said his unit dubbed "TO" because it comprised men from Texas and Oklahoma who told others the “TO” designation actually stood for "tough hombres," and talked of how he got hit in the head by a bullet on Iwo Jima, according to the Monroe Courier.
Barbuscak belonged to the Berlin motor pool, bringing the Allied high command to an array of places, he said, according to the Monroe Courier.
“We will never forget our heroes, which is why we’re here today,” said U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal at the tribute, the report said.
