This year's event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., celebrates the 237th anniversary of the Revolutionary War encampments in Redding.
Re-enactors will provide fun for the whole family as they re-create army life during this nation’s war for independence. Events include artillery and drill demonstrations, battlefield skirmish, Colonial craftsmen, kids drill instruction, army camp life talks, and a Soldiers of Putnam Park Program. Hands-on activities will take place all day.
The event is sponsored by the Friends and Neighbors of Putnam Park and organized by the Brigade of the American Revolution.
The Brigade of the American Revolution is a nonprofit living history association dedicated to recreating the life and times of the common soldier of the American War for Independence, 1775-1783. Members represent elements of all the armies then involved: Continental, Militia, British, Loyalist, German, French, Spanish, and Native American forces plus civilian men, women and children.
Putnam Memorial State Park is located on the site of the Winter Encampment of Gen. Israel Putnam’s Continental troops from December 1778 to May 1779.
The park is dedicated to the role they played in the Revolutionary War in helping secure America’s independence. The Israel Putnam Campground Commission purchased the land in 1888. It then donated the park to the state in 1954.
Suggested donations are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12 to support educational programming at the park.
