For kids, the library can also be a play place. Earlier this week, youngsters dug into a bin of Lego and other building materials. The kids put their imaginations into gear and went to work.

But for those interested in things a bit more high-tech, the branch library also offers innovative programs, including the Creators' Corner.

The Creators' Corner is a place for people to connect and create. An outgrowth of the Maker Movement and Maker Fairs, libraries throughout the country have embraced the concept of setting aside areas where individuals can think creatively, and find do-it-yourself solutions.

At the Fairchild-Nichols Memorial Branch, the Creators' Corner includes a MakerBot Replicator 2 desktop 3D printer and a laptop, where visitors can re-create just about anything.

Visitors are welcome to stop in and watch what's happening with the printer. Volunteers are on hand to help out.

Kids ages 10 and up can sign up for a 3D printer demonstration, or have a hands-on opportunity to use the machine, with instruction from a volunteer.

It is one of two libraries in the Trumbull Library System.
