Providing these opportunities is the foundation of the Kennedy Center in Trumbull, which provides residential services and programs for people with disabilities.
The center and its work was at the focus of the 52nd Annual Four Seasons Ball, drawing 220 guests and raising $106,000 in proceeds.
Since its inception in 1965, the annual fundraiser has contributed over $2 million to the Kennedy Center.
Recognition that evening — the gala was held at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton — went to Nancy and Joe Dennin, of Trumbull, and Bonnie and Steve Smith, of Shelton, as Tribute Journal honorees for their exceptional dedication to improving the lives of people with disabilities. In addition, the couples are parents of a child with disabilities and have volunteered and supported the Kennedy Center for many years.
“The Kennedy Center is one of the gems of Connecticut. This organization touches and transforms lives. People give with their hearts," said Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) in his remarks at the ball.
The ball co-chairs were Michele Macauda and Richard Burke, of Monroe. Also playing a major leadership role, were Bill Purcell of the Naugatuck Valley and Elizabeth Capobianco of Milford, co-chairs of the Tribute Journal.
In addition to raising money for the Kennedy Center, donations were collected for Fund-A-Home to renovate Old Good Hill Home in Oxford. The residential group home for five residents needs a new roof and gutters as well as ADA updates to two bathrooms. Although some state funding is available, it does not cover the total cost.
Proceeds from the ball will benefit the center’s 16 group homes, a supported living option program, a family support, respite service, and the Caring for the Caregiver program.
