The college’s Democrats Club, of which the 24-year-old was a member, in December named their annual banquet for Sutherland, a former intern for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, the Trumbull Times story said.

Attending the event were Sutherland’s parents, Doug and Theresa Sutherland, and U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, the Trumbull Times reported.

Sutherland was a 2009 graduate of Trumbull High School. He graduated from American University in 2013 with a degree in political science and communications and was working at New Blue Interactive in Washington as a digital strategist at the time of his death.
