As a spin off to "Pay It Forward" week, for the first time ever, City Line Florist in Trumbull is holding "Petal it Forward" day.
City Line Florist staff members, as well as volunteers, will be stationed at about 10 central locations in those towns, giving out free bouquets to anyone they see.
They will move from one location to the next throughout the day, staying until all the bouquets have been passed out. Each person will receive two bouquets; one to keep and the second to give away.
"These are all busy locations," said Nicole Palazzo, marketing manager at City Line Florist. "We will be wearing bright orange T-shirts that say 'Pay it Forward' on them.
"You don't have to look for us," she said. "We will find you."
According to Palazzo, the bouquets will include roses, lilies or a seasonal garden mix. By the end of the day, in total, hundreds of bouquets will be given out, she said.
For Pay it Forward week, most people pick up a bill at a diner for someone or pay for a cup of coffee, Palazzo said, but flowers are something different. "Petal It Forward is like pay it forward week except with flowers," she said.
People love to give flowers — but they especially love receiving flowers, Palazzo said. "They make people feel good and happy."
City Line Florist has been around since 1918 and is a five-generation business.
"We are here because of our community," Palazzo said. "We are doing this event because we wanted to do something good for our community. Also, we thought this would be a fun thing to do."

The Petal It Forward program at City Line Florists is in partnership with the Society of American Florists, a national trade association to the floral industry. According to Palazzo, Petal It Forward is in response to the release of new data by SAF showing the positive emotional benefits of flowers.
She said research reveals that not only do flowers have an immediate impact on happiness and a long-term positive effect on moods, but when it comes to happiness, it’s also just as good to give flowers as it is to receive them. According to the study, 88 percent of Americans report that giving flowers makes them feel happy while 80 percent report that receiving flowers makes them feel happy.
Palazzo has one request for all those who receive a bouquet on Petal It Forward Day. "After receiving their flowers, we are asking people to share their happiness on social media using '#petalitforward.'"
