Professor Leads Western Movement Discussion At Library In Monroe

MONROE, Conn. -- The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library in Monroe will present "Gone to Texas: The Civil War and the West," the second event in its Western Movement Series, on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Hamish Lutris, associate professor of history at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, will lead a Civil War-themed discussion Dec. 8 at The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.

Hamish Lutris, associate professor of history at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, will lead the discussion.

Lutris will explore the effects of the Civil War on the West, including efforts to map it, conquer native tribes, settle refugees and farmers and develop technology.

The free event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public, but registration is requested.

In the event of inclement weather, the presentation would be moved to Dec. 15.

The series will continue on Jan. 12 and Feb. 16.
