In an announcement on Thursday, April 11, Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Toni Jones revealed that Eduardo Calderón will take the helm of the Julian Curtiss School as its new principal effective on Monday, July 1.
Calderón will replace Trish McGuire, who will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Currently the principal of Cornerstone Academy for Social Action Middle School in the Bronx since 2020, Calderón also served as the principal of the Bronx's Wakefield School for three years and implemented several educational and administrative programs.
Additionally, Calderón has also served as an assistant principal at Seton Falls Elementary School in the Bronx and the Aerospace and Science Academy in Queens.
"I am honored to embark on this new journey with the Julian Curtiss School community," Calderón said of his appointment, adding, "Principal McGuire and the staff have done incredible work in service of all students and families at JC for more than a decade and I am humbled to pick up the baton from such a dedicated school leader.”
Jones also complimented Calderón's extensive experience and said he is the perfect fit for the school.
"Mr. Eduardo Calderón’s educational experience is impressive, while demonstrating strong, critical, and dynamic leadership at schools on the elementary and middle school levels," Jones said, continuing, "He will work in partnership with the staff, families, and Julian Curtiss’ diverse community that is recognized as a source of strength and a reflection of our world to provide a quality education for all students with high expectations for success and excellence."
Calderón holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in African American Studies from New York University as well as a Master of Arts in Special Education & Teaching from Mercy College. Additionally, he also holds a Master of Education in Public School Building Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
