Massage Parlor Owners Busted On Prostitution, Sex Trafficking Charges In Region
A couple who ran a Hampden County massage parlor were using it as a brothel, police in Westfield announced on Thursday, Feb. 1. Todd and Baushun Simonds, both of Holyoke, were arrested after police raided the Southampton Road Massage and Body Work at 282 Southampton Road in Westfield, Westfield police said. Police had been investigating the couple for some time and had determined they were trafficking in women to perform sexual favors on customers for money, though, the workers were not being paid, police said. Authorities have identified Hampshire County's first homicide victim this year as 21-year-old Jana Abromowitz, the Northwest District Attorney's Office said. Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly broke into an occupied home and fled when officers arrived in Western Massachusetts. The incident took place in Hampden County around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5 in Westfield at a home on Crescent Circle. A teen was killed and an adult seriously injured during a raging house fire in Western Massachusetts, authorities announced. It happened in Hampden County around 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 9 at a home in Agawam. Agawam firefighters responded to the area of Squire Lane following a 911 call, said Agawam Fire Chief Alan Sirois. A man has gone missing in the region and authorities are asking the public's help in locating him. The Massachusetts State Police and Huntington Police Department are attempting to locate Hampshire County resident Robert Sherman, age 79, of Chesterfield, who last last seen in Hampden County on Monday, Feb. 7 around 9:30 a.m., in Westfield. A Dozen Displaced, Two Dogs Rescued After House Fire In Region
A fire at a Western Massachusetts four-family unit home left 12 people and two dogs homeless. The fire broke out in Hampden County around 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, on Union Avenue in Westfield, said Deputy Chief Andrew Hart of the Westfield Fire Department. The fire started in one unit which received the most damage, but the other three units received smoke and water damage, Hart said. Two dogs were rescued by firefighters during the incident. No one was injured during the incident, Hart said. The Red Cross was called to offer assistance to the families and animals.

Man Charged After Walking Away From Hit-Run Crash In Region, Police Say
A Western Massachusetts man who had been arrested the day before on drug charges was apprehended again by the same police department for an alleged hit-and-run crash the next day. Hampden County resident Kornstatin Gladysh, age 24, of Westfield, was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 21 after East Longmeadow Police responded to a report of a crash. Police investigators in Western Massachusetts are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man who allegedly spent hundreds of dollars from an older woman.
