Luisa Melchionne, age 37, of New Canaan, was arrested on a warrant on Thursday, July 11, in connection with a complaint filed in April.

According to Sgt. Ryan Evarts of the Norwalk Police, the department began an investigation into the claims of an inappropriate relationship with a student at Nathan Hill Middle School in Norwalk.

The department's Special Victims Unit assumed the investigation and determined that Melchionne, a Nathan Hale Middle School guidance counselor, was sexually involved with a male student, Evarts said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Melchionne, and she was arrested without incident.

Melchionne is no longer employed by the Norwalk Public Schools.

She was charged with sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
