The ramped-up patrols began at 12:01 a.m. Friday and will conclude at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers are focusing on reducing the number of DUIs, crashes and injury-producing accidents occurring on the interstates, state roads and local roadways, said state police spokesman Sgt. Eric Haglund.
Here are the state police statistics through 7:30 a.m. Saturday:
- Speeding violations: 242
- Seatblet violations: 10
- All moving violations: 586 (including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cellphone usage, texting, failure to signal, etc.)
- DUI arrests: 19
- Accidents investigated: 279, of 29 had injuries (no fatalities reported)
- Motorist Assists: 188
- Total calls for service: 3,332
Here are the 2016 stats from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 22 through 11:59 p.m. Dec. 26:
- Speeding: 579
- Seatbelt: 50
- All moving violations: 1,596 (including following too close, distracted driving, cellphones, etc.)
- DUI arrests: 47
- Accidents: 528, of 58 had injuries (1 serious injury) and 4 fatalities
- Motorist assists: 436 (for flat tires, broken down and disabled vehicles, etc.)
- Total calls for service: 8,046
