Jamie Millward, chairman of the Sterling House board of directors, said Tuesday that the renovation will cost about $2.4 million, almost double the original estimate of $1.2 million, said the Stratford Star.
Millward added that the board discovered the project will be more expensive and take longer after reviewing the building last fall, added the Stratford Star.
Sterling House received a $1.2 million grant from the state Department of Social Services to renovate the community center, and it has now applied for another DSS grant in hopes of receiving enough money to cover the added cost, said the Stratford Star.
