The animal was first spotted around 5:30 p.m. after he cut through several backyards before hopping a fence and climbing up a tree, according to News 12.

The animal drew the attention of surrounding homeowners and many of the children playing a Little League baseball game nearby, according to News 12, which reported that the teams were told to evacuate the field while state environmental officials tranquilized the bear and carried it to a pickup truck.

According to News 12, bear attacks are uncommon in the United States with just two occurring on average each year.
