ID Released For Man Who Drowned Off Stamford Coast
A Fairfield County man who drowned after being thrown out of a canoe that capsized, along with a friend has been identified. Lorenzo Macua, age 63, of Norwalk, died from drowning when the canoe capsized off Shippan Point in Stamford on Saturday, July 10, said Meghan Bard, a spokesperson DEEP. The incident took place around 10 a.m. when Macua and a friend were canoeing off of Long Island Sound in the area off the coast near 280 E. Lifeguards From Beach Club Attempt To Save Drowning Man In Stamford
Four Fairfield County lifeguards are being honored for their efforts in attempting to save a drowning man who was thrown into the water from an overturned canoe. The incident took place around 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 10, when land and marine units from the Stamford Fire Department, Stamford Police Department, and Stamford Emergency Medical Services responded to Long Island Sound, near the east side of Shippan Point for a report of an overturned canoe with people in the water, said Captain Philip Hayes. Lifeguard From New Canaan Rescues Three In Canoe Off Shippan Point
At the end of a long day on the beach, a 22-year-old lifeguard at a local beach club saved three fishermen who had capsized the canoe off Shippan Point. The event took place around 8 p.m. Saturday about 100 yards offshore of Woodway Beach Club, when lifeguard Morgan Carson of New Canaan saw what he thought was three men struggling in the water just off the point, said Stamford Police Sgt.
