Family and friends are mourning the death of a former standout hockey goalie from the region. Fairfield County native Charlie Capalbo, age 23, of the town of Fairfield, died Sunday, April 24, following a five-year battle with cancer, according to a GoFundMe page established for his family. “After five years and 745 nights spent in hospitals, let’s just say that one got by Charlie in the 4th overtime today,” reads a post from GoFundMe organizer John McCormick. A student in Connecticut has been arrested after police say he sent threatening messages. Town of Fairfield Police Department detectives working in collaboration with school safety officers arrested the 15-year-old who attends Fairfield Ludlowe High School on Saturday, March 5 following a lengthy investigation of a veiled threat made to several classmates. March Madness got a little more maddening for some Connecticut educators in Fairfield County. Students at Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde high schools are in hot water after allegedly collaborating to create an NCAA basketball tournament-like bracket to allow participants to “vote” on their female classmates. There have been two more confirmed COVID-19 cases in a pair of schools. Fairfield Public Schools Superintendent Mike Cummings announced on Wednesday, Oct. 28 that an individual at Fairfield Warde High School and one at Roger Sherman Elementary School have both tested positive for the virus. The number of students at Fairfield Ludlowe High School testing positive for COVID-19 has jumped, forcing dozens into quarantine and the closure of the building. The spike in COVID-19 cases in Town of Fairfield high schools has been linked to several parties and large gatherings that have been attended by students, town officials said. A 23-year-old man has been detained by Fairfield Police after making harassing phone message through social media to students who attend Fairfield's Ludlowe High School.
