18-Week-Old Puppy In Danbury Loses Nose: Thousands Raised To Fund Surgery Costs A Connecticut animal rescue group is hoping to raise enough money to fund surgery costs for an 18-week-old German Shephard puppy who lost her nose from a disease.  To do so, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) has started a GoFundMe page to raise the funds needed to pay for reconstructive surgery on the puppy, who is named Gwen.  Gwen lost her nose when she came down with an immune-mediated disease called Puppy Strangles, which eats away at the skin around a dog's muzzle and affected her nose, lips, and the skin around her mouth. Video: Animal Planet Puppy Bowl Contestants From Danbury Animal Welfare Society Featured On CNN Our local furry friends from Danbury Animal Welfare Society were featured on CNN for their upcoming paw-ticipation in this year’s Animal Planet Puppy Bowl event. The resce group has entered a total of 25 puppies in this year’s event, and four of them were chosen to compete. The pups, all of whom are up for adoption, appeared in a segment on CNN's "New Day" morning show on Friday, Feb. 1.
