Westhill Takes on St. Joe's in Battle of Unbeatens

STAMFORD, Conn. — Two teams will enter the game but somebody's perfect season will be over by Wednesday evening. The two powerhouses in girls soccer this season, Westhill (9-0-0) and St. Joseph (10-0-0), will lock horns at 4 p.m. at Westhill High School in Stamford.

After trips to the conference and state finals last season, Westhill lost nine starters. Though many expected a down year for the Vikings, they have instead posted their best start in team history.

While the offensive tandem of freshman phenom Jess Laszlo and junior forward Nicole Pellicano has grabbed the headlines, the Westhill defense has been nearly impenetrable. With Allie Souza in net, Westhill has allowed just a single goal all season. The Vikings have outscored opponents, 28-1.

Trumbull's St. Joseph is powered by a powerful offense, led by junior forward Sylvia Yanez. The Cadets have allowed far more goals than Westhill, but the attack has proved dominant. St. Joseph has outscored opponents, 39-9.

A win by either team would put that squad on the fast track to the top seed in the conference and maybe the state tournament.
