Westhill Girls Finish Strong in League Final

STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill’s girls cross country team placed three runners in the top four finishers Tuesday to sweep its season-ending meet against Danbury and St. Joseph at Danbury’s Tarrywile Park.

Westhill beat Danbury, 25-31, and St. Joseph, 15-49.

Westhill junior Nicole Ambrosecchio won the 4,000-meter race in 16:36, followed by sophomore Claire Howlett, who was one second behind. Alison Ambrosecchio, a freshman, was fourth in 16:54.

Freshman Isabelle Yick (seventh, 17:41) and sophomore Ria Baldoz (11th, 18:13) rounded out the top five for the Vikings. With its promising group of underclassmen, Westhill finished the season 10-7.

Westhill’s boys went 0-2, losing to Danbury, 18-45, and St. Joseph, 21-40. Senior Sam Lagasse finished third overall in 14:10 for the 4K course.

Westhill runners will compete in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship meet on Oct. 20 at Waveny Park in New Canaan. Complete results of Tuesday's race are available on clubct.org.
