Stamford's Fortt Shines in Penn State's Victory

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford's Khairi Fortt made the most of his opportunity for Penn State on Saturday when he had a career-high six tackles in a 34-6 win over Eastern Michigan.

The sophomore linebacker saw increased playing time after Michael Mauti, the team's leading tackler, suffered a torn ACL in the first quarter. Fortt, who had been listed on the depth chart at middle linebacker, rotated in on the outside and had his best game with the Nittany Lions since making 11 stops during a game last season against Illinois. Fortt had two solo tackles, four assists and 1½ tackles for a loss.

On the game notes for this week's game against Indiana, Fortt is again listed as the backup to middle linebacker Glenn Carson. The Nittany Lions (3-1) meet the Hoosiers at noon in Bloomington, Ind., as they kick off their Big 10 season. Running back Silas Redd, a Norwalk native who played at King in Stamford, offers a scouting report of Indiana on the Penn State website.
