League Director Pierre Jasmine recently said he "is particularly proud to be hosting the league" in the newly renovated gym, according to a press release.
"Observers of this year's play are starting to wonder if Jasmine inserted an entry clause that only teams with college Division 1 big man prospects could apply," representatives said in the release. "The talented bigs are seemingly in every game, and often squared off in a match-up versus each other. MAAC conference scholarship offeree, 6'8" Ami Lataju has been large and in charge for St Luke's School, scoring frequently and controlling the glass. Greenwich's 6'8" Alex Wolf has the Ivy League and Patriot League scouts smiling over his powerful presence in the paint.
"The biggest of the bigs is 6'11", 280lb, Chima Azuonwu of Darien. Azuonwu has made progress in moving his skills and mobility closer toward his NBA sized body's potential. The Stamford Fall League play has helped prove his value at the next level, giving him frequent chances to lock down the opponents' highly recruited centers."
Representatives said the league team is high in quality and features several FCIAC contenders, according to the release.
"Both Trinity and GFA are going with young, but talented Nigerian centers," representatives said in the release. "Trinity picked up 6'9" Vahalla High transferee, Peace Ilegomah, who is a sophomore. Greens Farms is starting a 6'7" freshman, Sunday Okeke at center. Both youngsters are athletic and play very, very hard."
New Canaan freshman Tyler Sweeney could be the season's "biggest splash," representatives said in the release.
"Sweeney scored more than half his teams points in their game against Trinity, including a 6 for 7 performance from beyond the arc," representatives said in the release. "Also in the 'promising youth' category, Brien McMahon's AJ Jerome has the scouts intrigued. The sophomore has the shoulders and strength of a power forward, but has shown a terrific handle and IQ as BMHS' key ball handler. Freshmen 6'5" Peter Kotulsky of Norwalk and 6'7" Alex Preston of Darien have both made a case for themselves to capture significant varsity minutes in the upcoming winter season."
