Stamford White Sox Head for Playoff Opener

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford White Sox, defending champions of the Westchester Baseball Association, play the Mill Basin Mariners Thursday at 8 p.m. at Cubeta in the first round of the league playoffs.

The winner advances to a best-of-three series beginning Saturday. The WBA is primarily for college-age players.

The White Sox finished the regular season 17-8-1, while the Mariners went 14-8. The Pelham Mets finished 27-1 to win the regular season and play the Collegians in another first-round matchup.

The White Sox, managed by Mike Inzitari, have lost three of their last four entering the playoffs. Pitcher Mike Sciaretta (4-1, 1.51 ERA) anchors the pitching staff along with Matt Berdoff (3-2, 2.33 ERA).

Greg Smith (.469, seven RBIs) and Tyler Collins (.352, 14 RBIs) lead the offense. Other top hitters include Bobby Horn (.291), Matt Inzitari (.347), Brandon Romaniello (.327) and Albie Simeone (.381).
