St. John's Stevens Returns From Injury

STAMFORD, Conn. – Da’Shena Stevens is finally healthy again for the St. John’s women’s basketball team, which can only mean bad news for Big East opponents.

Stevens, a senior from Trinity Catholic, missed the first 10 games with a knee injury. She made her first start for the Red Storm (8-6) on Dec. 31 in a 75-38 win over Boston University. She is averaging 6.3 points per game since her return, which came on Dec. 18 and a 66-50 win over Prairie View.

“It was really great for the first time all year to have our team together,’’ St. John’s coach Kim Barnes Arico said on the St. John's website after the win over Boston University. “You got a glimpse of what we’re capable of doing. I was really excited to have Nadirah [McKenith] back and Da’Shena [Stevens] is getting better and better everyday.”

Sophomore Briana Brown, of Norwalk, also made her presence felt in the win over Boston. She tossed in a 3-pointer for the second straight game. Brown, a former star at King in Stamford, has played in eight games for the Red Storm. St. John’s returns to action Wednesday at home vs. Providence.
