New Stamford Club Lands Hockey, Skating Squads

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut Yankees youth hockey club and Skyliners synchronized skating team have entered into agreements with Chelsea Piers Connecticut to serve as the training venue for both organizations.

The Connecticut Yankees will also expand the boys and girls AAA program from a spring/summer program to a year-round program and will field Elite AAA teams at all levels. The Yankees also plan to host showcase tournaments throughout the year at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, a Stamford-based sports and recreation facility scheduled to open in June.

Chelsea Piers Connecticut will also offer an array of learn to skate and hockey skill development programs, according to Matt Stack, the club’s director of rinks. "One of our most exciting hockey products will be our Dual County (Fairfield and Westchester) Mite League. Every weekend we will schedule and run competitive cross-ice games for Fairfield and Westchester County Mite teams,’’ Stack said. “This will be an opportunity for teams to have consistent and appropriate competition. We think this centrally located mite league will be a model for other rinks around the country."

Chelsea Piers Connecticut will consist of seven core sports facilities encompassing more than 18 sports. Besides the twin skating rinks, there will be an aquatics center, gymnastics training center, baseball and softball training facility, field house, and centers for tennis and squash.
