Stamford Schools Receive Grants

STAMFORD, Conn. — Both Stamford Public Schools and Domus recently announced they will be receiving grants to help their students.

Stamford Public Schools will receive $250,000 through the U.S. Department of Education’s Upward Bound Program, which is designed to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for college and other higher education opportunities, a statement said.

“These grants are win-win: They give students the opportunity to go further than they might be able to on their own, and they make an investment in the future success of our nation,” U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4, said in the statement.

Fairfield University, Western Connecticut State University and Sacred Heart University also received money through the grant.

Domus will be receiving $200,000 in the next 18 months through the PropelNext grant from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, a statement from the school said. Domus was one of 15 organizations nationwide to receive the grant, which aims to help advance local organizations serving the youth. The school also will receive counseling on how to better serve its students.

“Domus is doing innovative and inspiring work with kids who desperately need help,” Lissette Rodríguez, EMCF’s director of capacity building, who developed and oversees PropelNext, said in the statement.
