Stamford School Earns E-Book in Contest

STAMFORD, Conn. – The upper level students at Stamford’s Holy Spirit School will get books for their e-readers after the school accumulated more than 500 votes in Main Street Connect’s “Better School Bonanza” and earning it $500.

“Now we can start downloading,” Principal Pat Torchen said, explaining that the school still needs to purchase books for the e-readers. Holy Spirit was able to buy the e-readers for the older students after participating in the Catholic School Walk-a-thon on Oct. 15, the principal said.

While there are only 94 students in the North Stamford Catholic School, the parents, and staff rallied together to spread the word about the contest, said Dawn Clarke, a parent at Holy Spirit. Also, by promoting the contest on Facebook, alumni - including Torchen’s two children - voted in “Better Schools Bonanza,” Clarke said.

The Fairfield County school with the most votes in the Better Schools Bonanza contest will receive $10,000 and second most, $1,000. Every school that gets 500 votes will receive $500.

Main Street Connect, is a National News Company that produces hyper-local news websites, including the Daily Stamford. The company presented the check to the school on Wednesday.
