The Pathways to Success in STEM Scholarship program is designed to increase the number of first-generation, low-income students who pursue a degree in STEM fields. Of the applicants, five were selected for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years based on criteria that included leadership and community service, academics, and intent to pursue a career in a STEM field.
In her application, Banerjee wrote "I cannot think of anything more satisfying than to develop, design or discover something that will make the world a better place.”
