Clothing Drive Goes Over The Top

Five tons of clothes and toys will help a lot of people in need. And that's about how much the recent Clothing Drive at Westover School in Stamford brought in, exceeding all expectations.

"At fifteen cents a pound the total came to $1,584.85. It's triple the amount we hoped for," said Clothing Drive Chair Heidi O'Grady.

"This was a real family event where everyone gave items they had at home and then went around to their neighbors," she added. The drive was conducted throughout the month of October.

All the items were purchased by A&E Clothing Corporation which picked them up a week ago at the school. A&E will now distribute the clothing and toys to families in need in underdeveloped countries around the world.

O'Grady, who is also a former PTO president at Westover, said the money will be put to good use. "Like all schools, our budget is really tight. We're going to use this money to help pay for transportation for next year's Nature's Classroom trips for our fifth-graders."
