African Children's Choir Performs in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford schoolchildren were treated to a special performance by the African Children’s Choir Tuesday at the Palace Theater as the visiting choral ensemble kicked off a weeklong stay in the city.

The 20 Ugandan children sang and danced and even taught the Stamford kids how to play the drums and clap along with their songs. The Stamford children also got to learn about African culture and meet the students after the performance.

The choir’s stay in the city is a joint venture of the Stamford Center for the Arts and Stamford Gives Back. The group will perform at Julia A. Stark School and Westhill High School on Thursday and at Dolan Middle School on Friday as part of a Diversity Day celebration.

On Saturday, May 26, the public will get to see the choir when it performs at the Palace Theater with the Cloonan Middle School Glee Club. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online or by calling 203-325-4466.
