A Stamford man has been nabbed in the vicious stabbing of a local man on Tuesday that left him fighting for his life, according to Stamford Police.

Recardo Williams, 40, of Custer Street, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree assault, two counts of violation of probation and one count of failure to appear. He is being held in lieu of a $204,000 court appearance bond, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

The unidentified 46-year-old man, who grew up in Stamford, was discovered Tuesday lying bleeding on Stephen Street from stab wounds to his head, neck and torso area. A person who knows the man and his family then rushed him to Stamford Hospital, where doctors "worked miracles saving his life," Conklin said.

The captain said help from outraged citizens helped bring a speedy conclusion to the case.

"This was such a savage attack that it could have easily turned into a homicide," Conklin added.

The victim recently moved back to Stamford from Bridgeport and was staying with his family, Conklin said.

Williams is no stranger to law enforcement. In July 2016, he was arrested for slashing a girlfriend with a knife during a fight. He pleaded guilty to assault and was given three years probation.

The investigation into the attack is continuing, although police believe they have a motive for the attack.
