Suspect Charged In Burglary Spree At Stamford Schools

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man suspected in a burglary spree at Rippowam Middle School complex was arrested Thursday afternoon, a statement from the police department said.

From Dec. 24 through March 20, seven burglaries and four attempted burglaries have occurred at Rippowam and the Academy of Information, Technology & Engineering with about $41,250 worth of property missing, police said. Surveillance video showed a man walking a white dog with a “distinctive” white tail near the school when most of the burglaries took place, police said.

On March 22, an off-duty sergeant found Peter Guerrlich walking a white dog and began talking to him and relayed information to Sgt. Peter diSpagna of the Property Crimes Unit., police said. DiSpagna then set up surveillance at the suspect’s home, police said.

Police executed a search warrant at Guerrlich’s High Clear Drive home April 2 and found $9,600 worth of valuables taken in the burglaries, police said. He was arrested Thursday after the department received a warrant, police said.

Guerrlich, 47, was charged with seven counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of attempt to commit third-degree burglary and first-degree larceny. He was held on $100,000 bond.
