Stamford Police: Bridgeport Man Found With Gun Inside Park

STAMFORD, Conn. — A routine police patrol early Tuesday resulted in the arrest of a Bridgeport man who had a handgun tucked under the front seat of his car, said Stamford Police, who arrested the man.

Bradley Bernard, 22, of 97 Helen St., Bridgeport, was charged with criminal possession of a revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit, third-degree criminal trespass, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and driving while under suspension, police said.

K9 Officer David Dogali was patrolling near the Old Greenwich border at 12:43 a.m. when he noticed a vehicle parked in Rosa Hartman Park at 95 Brown House Road, police said. The park closes at 10 p.m., and people are prohibited from being in at after closing, police said.

He approached the vehicle and smelled marijuana coming from inside, police said. Police said Bernard denied there was more marijuana in the vehicle when asked and told Dogali he could search the vehicle.

Backup officers, and Bernard and his passenger, Saadiyah F. Barber, 18, of 235 Connecticut Ave., Stamford, were asked to get out of the vehicle, police said. 

During a search of the vehicle, Dogali found the 9mm handgun lodged under the front seat, police said. Bernard admitted that the gun was his and said that he did not have a pistol permit, police.

His bond was set at $250,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court late Tuesday. His passenger, Barber, was issued a summons on a charge f third-degree criminal trespass and released to appear in court at a later date.
