STAMFORD, Conn. -- A paperwork glitch caused a delay Thursday in the sentencing of a driver who mowed down a teenage skateboarder in Stamford in 2015 and left him for dead, according to a report by The Stamford Advocate.
Ramon Martinez-Urbina, 29, is facing seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to second-degree assault and driving while under the influence, according to The Stamford Advocate report.
It includes a five-year suspended sentence; Martinez-Urbina has been in jail since 2015, The Stamford Advocate story said.
Because a pre-sentencing report had not been completed, Martinez-Urbina’s sentencing was put off until Nov. 9, The Stamford Advocate reported.
Martinez-Urbina was behind the wheel of a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van when he hit the then-17-year-old boy on Willowbrook Avenue around 5:23 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015.
The unnamed teen was carried on the van for a while before being thrown onto the street’s east shoulder and sidewalk, police said.
The van continued south on Willowbrook until it left the road and struck a stone wall and a tree before landing in the driveway of a private home.
Martinez-Urbina and his then-20-year-old passenger, Alejandro Estrada, both city residents, then ran off, but witnesses pointed police to the two men and they were both arrested.
The critically injured teen was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment. He survived.
Estrada was charged with interference with police.
The outcome of Estrada’s case could not be learned Thursday.
